On Tuesday December 13th, 2016 Toronto council had an astounding vote to support Mayor John Tory’s act to appoint road tolls on the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway. Even though Toronto city council endorses these highway tolls they would still need approval from the provincial government.
According to city council, these new tolls are to pay for the cost of maintaining the Gardiner Expressway, Don Valley Parkway, and to fund further transit projects. After nearly 12 hours of debate, council voted 32 to 9 to approve exploring the option of these tolls.
